The building

The Torbay Inn dates back to the early 1600s and is believed to be the oldest public house in Paignton. The building itself carries a date plaque of 1647, while local history tells that General Fairfax, the Roundhead commander, stayed here in 1646 on his way to a Civil War battle in Exeter.

The pub has been a Grade II listed building since 1975, helping to preserve its character and history.

Today, the Torbay Inn still keeps its traditional layout, with two separate rooms - a cosy lounge and a lively public bar, each with its own atmosphere. You’ll find a good selection of real ales on rotation, a warm welcome for both regulars and visitors, and live music nights that have become a regular part of life at the pub.
